Project: Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder

“A lot of us grow up and we grow out of the literal interpretation that we get when we’re children, but we bear the scars all our life. Whether they’re scars of beauty or scars of ugliness, it’s pretty much in the eye of the beholder.”

-Stephen King

Stigmas are the one single thing that dominate our society and are the most widely used filter for all of our thinking. Having even beauty defined by a stigma. Why should it be?

I took 3 girls from grade 8 at my NGO, first captured them at their simple best. No aesthetics and nothing fancy. Just a reflection of how the world sees them as; underprivileged, poverty stricken, barrels of lost opportunities and struggles.

Then I captured them, trying to bring out the reflection of how they see themselves; beautiful, strong, empowered, full of hope and confidence. If only someone gave them a chance to break out from the stigma.
